OHLA’s Education & Workforce Development Committee is excited to announce its first-ever OHLA Hotel Summer Camp!

During this intensive, fun, and interactive camp, students will stay at a hotel and experience: 

  • Guest Service Gold Certification, an American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute/National Restaurant Association Certification
  • OHLA Board Members and Hotel Department Managers tell their stories and answer questions from the students
  • Learn how to present yourself in an introduction, The “30-Second Commercial,” and on a resume
  • Sports Marketing in the Tourism World, A presentation from the Columbus Sports Commission, an Event Manager from Nationwide Arena, with a tour of the Arena
  • Visit kitchens at the Greater Columbus Convention Center and more, a mechanical room at the Hyatt Regency, and a tour & talk with a restaurant’s chef
  • Learn what it takes to be an Event Planner and how learning the skills is helpful in career progression from an OSU Hospitality Management Instructor
  • Business Etiquette for Essential Dinners: We’ll have a fully set professional dinner table, with a presenter on best practices throughout the dinner
  • Our Interactive Activity consists of helping them learn how to make - SMART GOALS

What is the OHLA Hotel Summer Camp?

The Ohio Hotel & Lodging Association (OHLA) Hotel Summer Camp is a 3-day/2-night high school program for junior and senior students looking for a career path, wanting to know more about the lodging/hospitality industry, and those who know this is a path they are interested in and want to learn more firsthand.

The camp includes hotelier panels, Hospitality sessions, AHLEI Guest Service Gold Certification, tours, and evening activities.  

1-6 students per school, 1-6 per chaperone. Chaperones are REQUIRED.

The hotel industry offers an unparalleled setting to meet people from all walks of life and to experience new adventures every day. Many exciting avenues are available to hotel employees to achieve their personal and professional goals!

The hotel industry career pathways include occupations within various hotel departments, often with the same employer.
